The girls asked over dinner the other night, if they could leave out a snack for the Easter bunny on Saturday.
Let me just take this moment to say that I can't stand the leaving out a snack for santa ordeal, and the inevitable baggies of "reindeer feed" that they bring home from school that we are forced to sprinkle outside with great flair. Not be a bah-humbug, but when we have a Christmas Eve service, our regular Christmas Eve traditions, and then have to take over santa's job - because apparently he went to Aruba centuries ago and we don't have the heart to fill the kiddos in... well it just becomes a bit much - especially when we're supposed to be all jolly and merry at the crack of dawn the next morning! We do fulfill our obligations faithfully in this department however - though I think last year, he may have been left some snowflake-shaped ritz crackers as an afterthought... ho-ho-ho.
Allll that to say, Easter is yet another busy holiday for us. It's my favorite holiday! I love it! The freshness of Spring, celebrating Christ's resurrection - the entire reason I have any purpose in life at all! However, working in a church, it can be insanely busy... It won't be as bad this year on my end, but there's still been plenty to do! Easter egg hunts, cantatas, Maundy Thursday dinners, services, "did my Easter lily come in?", "the Easter lilies make my nose run", "can we move the Easter lilies away from the choir so we stop sneezing", dinners, the reading of The Country Bunny, the reading of the true story of Easter, remembering constantly that I'm forgetting that I gave anything up for lent, sneaking a piece of candy that's been stashed away for Easter baskets, remembering that I still have to buy Easter grass, sneaking another piece of stashed away Easter candy, realizing that I've been sneaking too many and have to restock the Easter basket candy, spring break begins, etc.
Dean's parents are headed into town for Easter this year as well! They'll be here Saturday afternoon, and are staying until Monday. It will not be the quiet Easter-Sunday morning I'm sure they're used to. And that's even without adding in the sunrise service!
So on top of all this, I'm supposed to now find a snack for the Easter bunny. Speaking for the Easter bunny - because I feel qualified to do so - I'd say he (or she) would probably like to be left a marshmallow creme egg. Or maybe 2.
Dean said, under his breath, that speaking of snacks, Frodo would probably love to make one out of the Easter bunny.
No, the girls didn't hear him - but I did, and found it freaking hilarious.
Very nice. :-P I especially liked the Santa diatribe. I think most parents probably want to smack Santa for not actually existing.
ReplyDeleteA marshmallow creme egg sounds fantastic.
I agree with Dean and Frodo! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, you should eventually print out all your blog posts and send them off for printing. I think everyone on this planet would benefit from your writing. Seriously, I'm not kidding! You make me laugh and feel your frustration all at once!--not just talking about this last post, but all the ones I've ready in general.
